Prof. dr. Nico Groenendijk is Jean Monnet Professor of European Economic Governance, at the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences of the University of Twente (Netherlands). He is co-director of the Centre for European Studies, Senior Member of the Netherlands Institute of Government (NIG) and President of the European Union Studies Association, Netherlands (EUSA-NL). His background is in public administration, public policy and public sector economics. He is currently specialized in the EU budget, EU institutional development, economic policy coordination, Lisbon Agenda/Europe2020, and fiscal federalism. He has published extensively on issues of policy coordination within the EU (both across member states and across policy fields), on the coherence and governance framework of the Europe 2020 strategy, and on the role of regions in that strategy. Current projects include research into performance management and accountability in EU Cohesion policy, into the role of monitoring committees in EU cohesion policy, into the impact of EU regulation on subnational authorities in the Netherlands, and into cross-border cooperation and macro-regions in Europe. Nico Groenendijk has been a visiting professor in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Slovakia and South Africa. Currently he is visiting professor of European Studies at the European College of the University of Tartu, Estonia.
